Lincolnshire Lord’s Taverners’ Table Cricket Competition Finals

Such has been the interest shown in this year’s competition that the Finals had to be held over two days in Late January 2018. The aim was to provide a competition that was as accessible and inclusive as possible. On Tuesday 30th January 2018 the first matches took place at North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe with teams from all over the county taking part. On the following day the event was hosted by Foresight at Scunthorpe and witnessed players from all over the county again locking horns in fierce but friendly sporting combat. As the day progressed it culminated in teams from Foresight (Grimsby), Foresight (Scunthorpe) and two teams from a strong looking Linkage College competing in the semi finals.

In front of an enthralled audience (standing room only!) the semi finals and final was played and Linkage Lemurs finally finished on top narrowly from Foresight (Grimsby). All the games were played in excellent sportsmanship with winners and losers sporting shaking hands at the end. In addition the captains undertook their role seriously and demonstrated great tactics and awareness. Most importantly all the games were played in great camaraderie with all participants treating each other with great dignity and respect. The competition was very close. Linkage Lemurs will now go through to the next stage of the competition and have the great honour of representing Lincolnshire.

Special thanks go to everyone at Foresight at Scunthorpe who made everyone very welcome and provided a great buffet to share

Overall we received really positive feedback from both participants and their carers and supporters. This is epitomised in the touching hand written report and reflection by a member of the winning team from Linkage.

A quick mention that others came in to watch and got so interested that they stayed for the duration and the fact that some were interested but lacking confidence due to their autism etc. To take part in a busy noisy room is no easy task so we did a special session with them afterwards and have they have asked us to go back.
